The
Greene County Rescue Squad Cadet Corps was established so that high school
students can gain experience in EMS, while provide a service to the County.
Cadet members serve as a valuable part, and subsequently highly respected
youths in the community. There are several standards and responsibilities to be
met and maintained by Cadet members. All standards are contained within these
guidelines.
The cadet program will operate under the supervision of a cadet advisor. The Cadet Advisor shall be a non-cadet full time member of the squad, over 21 years of age, appointed by the captain.
The Cadet Advisor will supervise the operation of the cadet corps. The Cadet Advisor shall intervene, as necessary, to ensure that all functions and activities of the Cadet Corps are properly performed and completed.
The
Cadet Advisor shall report to the First Lieutenant, and will perform additional
duties as assigned by the Squad Officers. The Cadet Advisor will act as a
liaison between the cadet Corps and the Squad membership.
IV.
Activities
The
Cadet corps will assist with activities as directed by the Cadet Advisor. Cadet
members are expected to attend each function unless the Cadet Advisor grants
prior approval.
V. General Rules
A. The By-laws and Standard Operating Procedures for the Squad apply for all Cadet members, in addition to all guidelines in this document
B. Nothing contained in this document is in conflict with any of the above mentioned documents
C. This document shall be reviewed, and revised as needed should any changes be made in the By-laws or Standard Operating Procedures for the Squad, which may place this document in conflict with the other documents.
D. Cadets shall conduct themselves in a responsible fashion at all times when representing the Greene County Rescue Squad. Any inappropriate behavior will be addressed, and action will be taken if deemed necessary.
VI.
General Guideline for Cadet Corps membership
A. Membership shall be not more then five
(5) new members per year, with Total membership not to exceed twelve (12)
B. Cadet corps members must have parental
permission to apply, and the parent(s) shall be contacted in person prior to
membership committee meeting.
C. After the Cadet member is voted in, a
parent/member orientation shall occur prior to the Cadet member attending any
squad related activities.
D. Cadet corps members shall maintain a B
average. This will be monitored and documented by the Cadet Advisor. Failure to
maintain this B average shall result in suspension from running shifts with the
cadet corps, and may result in removal should the Corps member not be able to
bring his/her grades back to an acceptable level.
E. In order to observe on an Ambulance, the
cadet member shall have at least a current CPR card on file
F. Cadet members are NOT eligible to vote in
Squad votes or elections
G. The cadet member shall be restricted in
the numbers of hours in squad related activity.
1. For sixteen (16) year old members, these
consist of 18:00 to 22:00 on school nights, and 06:00 to 22:00 on non-school
nights, not to exceed 24 hours in a seven (7) day period
2. For seventeen (17) and eighteen (18) year
old members, these consist of 18:00 to Midnight on school nights, and full
shifts on non-school nights, not to exceed forty (40) hours in a seven (7) day
period.
3. For Full shifts on non-school nights,
parental permission in writing is required.
H. All cadet members will have prior
permission of the team captain prior to running with any crew
I. Cadet corps members shall NOT first
respond to any call. Period. Any infraction may be subject to suspension or
removal from the Cadet Corps and the Greene County Rescue Squad.
J. Cadet Corps members shall NOT respond to
a call from school, during regular school hours. The only exception would be if
requested to assist on scene on school grounds by either a school official or
other Public Safety Officer. (Such as Law Enforcement or a Principal)
K. Cadet members shall produce and submit
copies of their report cards to the cadet advisor at the conclusion of each
marking period, in a timely manner.
L. Cadet Corps members shall not wear their
duty shirts at any other time then on duty or at a squad function
M. Cadet member shall be assign a mentor
agreed upon by the cadet and the Cadet Advisor.
N. Cadet Corps members who fail to fulfill
their assigned duties, whether an assigned shift, or Cadet Corps function,
unless approved by the Cadet Advisor, the Team Captain and/or Parent(s), may
result in disciplinary action by the Cadet advisor.
O. Any Cadet on Duty shift shall
not leave the building or grounds unless:
1. Their parent(s) have notified the cadet’s
advisor or mentor.
2. They are with their mentor or other adult
full time member on duty
3. On a call during their shift or other squad
function with the Duty crew
P. Cadets will be allowed to have an
observer run with them as long as they have approval of the Team Captain, Cadet
Advisor, and the observers Parent(s). They further will have an observer form
completed, and understand all of the guidelines that apply.
1.Only one Cadet observer per shift will be allowed.
VII.
Changes
Any
Changes to these guidelines shall be proposed to the Cadet membership by the
Cadet Advisor for discussion. The finalized proposal will be introduced to the
general membership of the squad at the business meeting. A simple majority vote
will result in the change being implemented. The Cadet Advisor will ensure that
the proposed change will not cause a conflict between the existing By-Laws, and
SOP’s of the squad.
